In response to the increasing inquiries related to thermometers due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, we have compiled information for your reference.
Types of Thermometers
There are mainly three types of thermometers: actual measurement thermometers, predictive thermometers, and infrared thermometers.
- Actual Measurement Thermometers: This type measures the actual body temperature. When measuring from the armpit, it takes about 10 minutes to reach equilibrium temperature.
- Predictive Thermometers: With unique sensors and predictive functions, these can estimate the equilibrium temperature in a short time. CITIZEN offers types that take approximately 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 60 seconds.
- Infrared Thermometers: These include ear-type and ear/forehead-type thermometers, measuring in about 1 to 2 seconds. They are suitable for measuring many people quickly.
Points for Measurement (Actual Measurement & Predictive)
- Avoid measuring after eating, bathing, exercising, or intense crying.
- Wipe off any sweat from the armpit before measurement.
- If the armpit opens or the thermometer is removed during measurement, please start over from the beginning.
- For continuous measurement or retesting with predictive thermometers, it is necessary to cool the sensor part with a damp towel.
Temperature Measurement for Babies (Newborns)
- Check the warm area in the middle of the baby's armpit (the indentation), and position the tip of the thermometer upward underneath it.
- If the baby cries, their temperature may rise. It is recommended to measure when they are in a good mood.
- When conducting continuous measurements with a predictive thermometer, allow more than a one-minute interval, and wipe off any sweat from the armpit before measuring.
