From the latter part of the Meiji era to the Taisho era, the watch and precious metals dealer Yamazaki Kamekichi, who traveled around the watchmaking sites in Switzerland and the United States, had the determination to "domesticate pocket watches." In 1918 (Taisho 7), he established the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, which was the precursor to Citizen Watch. In 1930, he founded Citizen Watch Co., Ltd., marking the start of its history.
